SANDER STUART
Assistant Professor to Hartmut Rohde
Sander Stuart, born in Munich in 1992, is a violist, chamber musician, and founding member of the Vision String Quartet, which has been regarded as one of the most internationally distinguished string quartets since its founding in 2012. As a versatile musician, he combines the tradition of classical chamber music with innovative concert formats, original compositions, and cross-genre projects, while also working as a videographer.
Sander Stuart received his musical education at the Universität der Künste Berlin under Prof. Hartmut Rohde, and pursued further studies with the Artemis Quartett in Berlin and with Günter Pichler at the Escuela Superior de Música Reina Sofía in Madrid. Already during his studies, he developed a particular passion for chamber music and collaborative artistic work within an ensemble.
With the Vision String Quartet, he performs regularly on international stages and in renowned concert halls such as the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, Berliner Philharmonie, Gewandhaus Leipzig, and Wigmore Hall in London. In addition, the ensemble tours extensively throughout Europe, Asia, Australia, and the United States. The quartet is especially known for its exceptional stage presence: the musicians perform their entire repertoire from memory and present not only the classical string quartet repertoire, but also original compositions influenced by jazz, folk, pop, and rock.
The Vision String Quartet has received numerous international awards, including First Prize and all special prizes at the Concours de Genève, as well as the OPUS KLASSIK award for Recording of the Year. Their debut album Memento was released by Warner Classics and received broad international acclaim. With the album Spectrum (Warner Classics), the quartet further established its own musical style between classical music and contemporary band culture.
In addition to his work with the quartet, Sander Stuart also appears as a soloist and in various chamber music formations. At the center of his artistic work are expressivity, communicative music-making, and the search for new ways of bringing classical music to a wider audience. As a videographer, he also develops visual formats that make classical music accessible in contemporary ways — including projects awarded the OPUS KLASSIK for “Best Music Video”.
